I have a couple client computers where the latest Citrix Receiver wouldn't launch applications or desktops, either directly from the receiver client or from the web interface (storefront). There was a much older Citrix client installed on these computers before. The receiver cleanup utility didn't fix the problem.
Client devices: Citrix XenApp applications and sessions can be accessed by endpoint devices using a software client called Citrix Receiver. Receiver is available for a very large array of client form factors and operating systems. Citrix XenApp versions. A requirement was to place applications within their own folders for better organisation. Navigate to Citrix Studio, edit the properties of the application, click Delivery and enter a name under Application category (optional). Now click OK. Note: You can use the Add shortcut to user’s desktop check-box to add this application to the users. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, formerly Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop, virtualization provides a complete, flexible solution that delivers Windows applications and desktops to any user on any device. But I found a solution and wanted to share.
I wasn't seeing any errors, no popups, noting in the event viewer, nothing in the receiver log files. It's like I wasn't even clicking on the published application icons.
What I did is deleted 2 folders called Citrix. One in the registry and one in the user's profile folder.
This is the registry file I deleted. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWARECitrix
Before I deleted the folder from the profile, I opened the task manager, then ended all the Citrix related processes that were running. Except for ssonsvr.exe.
Delete this is the folder in the user's profile. C:UsersUsername.DomainAppDataLocalCitrix
Delete the root Citrix folders.
Citrix Xenapp Download
After I deleted these folders receiver was effectively back to its default settings and it started connecting. Didn't have to reboot or reinstall the receiver client. You may have to log off and back on to windows if you are using sso and are prompted to login. Even though I didn't end ssonsvr.exe. I didn't have to logoff in one instance but did in another.
Citrix Xenapp Applications Crashing
Hope this helps someone else. I fought with this for a few days.
